Spay Month is over and we’re happy to report that it was a success!
Our small team effectively spayed and neutered 206 animals during Spay Month and saving many precious lives. We safely released the neutered dogs back into their familiar environment, but some of them returned to the camp after growing attached to our team. A new BETA food station at the site will ensure they’re always fed.
Local residents overwhelmingly supported our efforts and even helped catch difficult stray dogs for neutering. Some people in the region suggested we poison the strays instead of wasting our time, but most changed their mind with a bit of education on the subject. BETA is the first animal welfare organization to introduce the “Trap, Neuter, Release” method to Lebanon, and we see that people are slowly understanding and accepting the idea.
Volunteers are essential to BETA’s work, and that includes local veterinarians. By building a strong relationship with vets in Lebanon, we can encourage them to send the message that spaying and neutering does save lives. Rather than watching their clients breed countless pets, vets are beginning to understand our mission and changing their approach as a result.
BETA would like to thank Quantum and Vertical for donating their services. With 4 billboards across the country, thousands of posters and flyers, and an ad on NRJ radio, our spaying and neutering campaign reached thousands of people throughout Lebanon.
Although Spay month is over, spaying and neutering will be an on-going campaign for BETA and hoping to work with more municipalities in the future.
We'd like to thank the Order of the Lebanese Veterinarians, the Roumieh Municipality & of course all the dedicated volunteers who were involved in Spay Day International. We appreciate your continued support.
As always, on behalf of all the voiceless animals.
Sincerely,
The BETA team
